Southend United - Going, going, gone?
Need to pay over £1million by March 1st or face going bust.

As a Londoner, there's no rivalry with them and therefore think it's sad they could be the next Bury.

Essex Hammers, I'm sure you'll take pleasure in their likely demise, particularly Sold0 and his thousands of mates.

Southend have paid £1.4M to HMRC today before tomorrow’s winding up petition hearing.

The West Ham shop went the last time we dropped. (Cost cutting by her Ladyship.) As for N17 vermin. Fortunately I managed to escape the area a few years ago. But it probably went the same way as the rest of Southend shopping district. And now is a ghost town.

A mixed bag from the Shrimpers. Some hate us, some don't care.

I want them to continue as a football club and get back into the football league. I prefer them over the O's, who are in a happy relationship with the front wheels. And as a born and raised East Ender, Southend are another club to me.

PS, is our shop still in Southend? I know the N17 cunts opened one near the station.

Sold0 son, why would your Southend MATES call you a Cockney cunt?

You're from the seaside. You have more in common with Southend fans than West Ham fans, son.

Re: Southend United - Going, going, gone?
Russ... like you say it's a real weird one... got some good mates that are shrimpers and I've asked them why all the one way rivals... as mainly... we don't give a shit... only ones that make any sense and it's by a couple of the older heads I know and it stems from when they played on Friday nights in the 70's and 80's... they used to get some decent crowds back then mainly as people ... including myself would watch them if you didn't support them... Southend on a Friday and a few beers and then proper days footy on the saturday watching the team you support... daft thing is was not just us going on Fridays ... I know of Chelsea, QPR, Spurs and Goons... but for whatever reason it's us they got the hump with the absolute dicks...

Few mates that are fans seem to think they will be ok.

Players got paid yesterday.

Re: Southend United - Going, going, gone?
Fuck the cunts.

I'm about 20 minutes down the A127 to Roots Hall and so have been there several times down the years. A family member also played in goal for them for a couple of seasons so went to see him.

Let me tell you, they fucking hate West Ham. First time I went as an adult I was taken aback at the vitriol and venom aimed at West Ham in a match against someone like Shrewsbury. It was embarrassing.

Mate of mine at work supports them and says its because they think West Ham fans look down at them. There's also a big West Ham contingent in Southend and surrounding towns like Leigh, Westcliff and then all the way up the A127 and proper Southend fans think they are glory hunters and should support Southend.

But, from going to games and obviously family member playing for them I can tell you they are a very badly run football club. They have been for years. They have an absolute monster of a catchment which has never ever been properly tapped into by successive boards.

Info I've heard is that successive boards are reluctant almost to the point of being stubborn to expand and develop and try new ways of promoting the club and getting bigger crowds. Even rejecting lots of private investment through fear of relinquishing responsibility and power. I've heard some bad stories about how players have been treated and just poor man management and treatment of fans alike.

Most of their fans are ok but act like cunts when it comes to West Ham so they can fuck themselves. They don't deserve alot more than going out of business because they've done fuck all to expect anything else.

Good riddance i say.

The perils of falling in love with U.S economic policy eh? To copy guarantees the same result - you'd think we wouldn't be so far behind the curve in realizing by now.

Anyway, hasn't the airport been mothballed for a while now? Stagecoach can't afford to run it properly without a massive subsidy - I wonder who is paying for that?

Also I saw that the engines of the planes literally pump out their fumes into people's back gardens just a few feet from the actual runway.

eusebiovic... yeah some truth there... think they have thrown all their eggs in one basket and concentrated on the Airport expansion... Vic Avenue was full of office buildings... Insurance, Government, Council... our was last to go... whole road now is full of flats... I'd say a good 10,000+ jobs gone from the area... that's 10,000+ not spending in the area... pubs... restaurants... shops... no wonder the High Street is like a fucking ghost town.

Anyway they have a lovely seafront now and a Airport with about 6 destinations...

Re: Southend United - Going, going, gone?
What is wrong with the local council in Southend?

They seem to be cursed with the long term syndrome of complacency and corruption that any safe seat has - be it Tory in this case or something else.

Now that a stabbing incident has blessed them with city status you'd think that having a football club in a new stadium to put the place on the map would be an attractive priority. Brighton proved it can be done.
